Corrugated carton can withstand long shipping times making it top of the list when it comes to packaging solutions.
From it's protective qualities to it's cost-effectiveness and sustainability, there are plenty of reasons why corrugated cardboard is so widely used as a material for shipping goods.
What is Corrugated Cardboard?
Each wall consists of two outer layers of liner, creating a sandwich around the inner layer of fluted, corrugated sheet. The outer layer offers some rigidity and the central fluted section provides cushioning to protect items in the event that the box is damaged.
Single walled boxes give a reasonable level of protection from impact, preventing the most-delicate items from damage during transit. For more fragile goods, it's worthwhile investing in the additional protection provided by double walled boxes, which have an additional corrugated sheet and liner layer, ideal for protected products.
Is Corrugated Cardboard Cost-Effective?
Corrugated cardboard is an affordable material within the price range of most companies that need to ship items, whether in small or large quantities.
A strong, lightweight and durable material which can withstand pressure without needing to be heavy, offering cushioning for any product.
Is Corrugated Sustainable?
Corrugated is the most sustainable packaging material available. Produced from sustainable forest sources, renewable raw materials and byproducts of the paper manufacturing process this stock is economically friendly, recyclable and renewable. Corrugated cardboard can lessen the environmental impact of packaging as waste is significantly reduced.
Customisation
Cardboard is an ideal material for customisation and there are two basic production methods to enable your artwork to appear onto your packaging.
- Direct Printing - ie: printing directly onto the material. A common method to print onto corrugated and is usually produced via flexo or digital printing.
- Pre-Printing - printing Litho onto a sheet of paper first and then affixing the entire sheet, via a lamination process, onto a single sheet of corrugated. This method provides more strength to your final packaging.
Due to its ability to display attractive printed graphics, corrugated packaging creates an effective shelf impact for consumers. When utilised on shelves or displays it can increase in-store sales and serve as a billboard for brands and establishing brand identification.
