Helpful Tips

Standing out on the shelves is one thing, but a great packaging design is both eye-catching and cost-effective.  Are you sure your packaging design is getting you the best deal with manufacturers?

Follow these tips to reduce your packaging costs to the max!

BKT Logo crop 2Take it down a tone – or half

Are you sure you really need all the colors in your design?  Unless your packaging design includes photographs, you can probably get away with using half tones.  Most printers will charge you less if you use shades of the same color instead of using extra colors.

Is your product really using every inch of its packaging?  Try and see if you can reduce the size of the packaging by dividing the product into smaller pieces.  If that’s not possible, verify if the packaging’s size is determined by your packaging design.  If it is, consider reducing the size of the text and graphics.

BKT Logo crop 2Opt for a standard size

Most manufacturers carry a range of standard sized materials that are much less expensive than their customized alternatives because they can order them in bulk.  Ask your manufacturer about standard sized packaging before you start designing.

Recycled Please Recycle

BKT Logo crop 2Use recycled paperboard packaging

Unless recycled paperboard carries a label that notes where the recycled materials come from, it is much cheaper than standard white board.

Good to know: consumers have a preference for green packaging, so don’t forget to mention on your packaging that it is eco-friendly.

BKT Logo crop 2Lighter packaging costs less

Are you sure you need ultra thick paperboard or cardboard to package your product?  Sturdy as these materials may be, they are on the more expensive side of the equation.  Oftentimes, a slightly thinner version of the same material is just as strong, yet costs significantly less to ship.
